[edit]I find this Article a bit strange in the point of view. There is no biography.. it seems more like a newspaper article without any gum in it. :-) viyyer 20:58, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Rajni's birthplace
[edit]According to IMDB and various other sources, rajnikanth's birthplace is Karnataka. But currently the article cites it as Krishnagiri Dt,Tamil Nadu. The user who made this change please cite a source for verification. Karthi s84 19:53, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
"Improper match"
[edit]The section on personal life that mentions his daughter's marriage calls it an "improper match." Aside from being a glaring case of POV, it also goes unexplained -- was it improper because of some perceived flaw in the husband? because the daughter did not wait for permission? etc. Any reader who does not already know what made hers an "improper match" would not be any clearer after reading the article. The idea of mentioning such a topic in a Wikipedia article is to paint a more complete picture of the subject (in this case, the actor), and we owe it to the uninitiated reader to make clear what the issue is. It would be especially helpful to those of us who are less familiar with the cultures of India. Lawikitejana 19:56, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Just for discussion sake,
- the caste of the bride and groom are different
- the bride is elder than the groom Doctor Bruno 14:03, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Just for discussion sake,
The Entire article
[edit]"Apart from Tamil, Rajinikanth has acted in over 160 movies," Is the author suggesting that he has acted in 160 films apart from tamil movies?
- IMHO it should to 160 films in total
"helped them to defeat the ruling AIADMK party" Isnt that highly debatable?
- Not at all. All the magazines is 1996 said that only. Wikipedia is not a place for original research Doctor Bruno 06:33, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
"Chandramukhi was the most succesful tamil film ever made and grossed around 100 crores""He is the Highest Paid Actor in India and the Second Highest paid actor in Asia besides Jackie chan""He was the highest paid actor in India"
All unsubstanciated rumours/opinions. No real data to back it up and i am sure actors chow yun fat and jet li make more than a few million for their efforts. Besides Rajini makes his money from distribution rights to certain areas for his movies and for producing rather than as an actor.
- Citation added for the highest paid actor Doctor Bruno 06:33, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Er..the references given, www.behindwoods.com sounds more like a fansite than an authentic reference. Even they say that Rumored to be highest paid actor in India and the second highest paid actor in Asia only next to Jackie Chan Can any one come up with a credible reference for this. Something like the income tax filed would be great Rakes 05:00, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Dear All, Rajnikant was born in Bangalore and acted in Kannada plays/dramas/stageshows before moving to Tamil Cinema. He knew only Kannada and Marathi(Mother tongue) and he learnt tamil after moving to chennai. He is no doubt belongs to Kannadigas as well tamil. Hope this clears question of kannada transliteration in the literature. Rajnikant may be the name given by tamil director but the person roots are from Karnataka hence transliteration in kannada will not impair the reputation of the person.
rajnikant and kannada transliteration
[edit]Hello, What is the need of including Kannada transliteration here just because he;s acted in few Kannada films? He has acted in Telugu/Malayalam/Bangla films also so does that mean we should inculde trasliterations in that language too?I mean Tabu did a Marathi film, should I insert Marathi transliteration on her page? - Please refer to the discussion at an Admin's talk page on the same topic.
- Rajnikanth was born and brought up in Karnataka and started his career in Kannada movies[1]. Many of this movies in Kannada have been superhits.
- He did his schooling in Bangalore and later on started working in 'Karnataka State Transport Corporation' in Bangalore as Bus conductor. All these information has already been presented in the article.
- Local language and official language of Karnataka and Bangalore is Kannada. Rajnikanth is, thus, associated with Kannada right from his childhood and hence it is required to have Kannada transliteration for his name in this article.
- Also, I request valid reasons and citations on why Marathi transliteration is required. Thanks. - KNM Talk - Contribs 22:36, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Changing the first para
[edit]I have changed the first para and brought Rajnikanth instead of the real name. This has been done to prevent moves like this Doctor Bruno 06:28, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Correct Kannada names
[edit]Previously I have edited the the Kannada film names will the correct pronounciation and kannada words. Eg: "Galatta samsara" should read "Galate Samsara". There is no such word as "Galatta" in Kannada. It is a tamil word. I can understand that while writing the name in english the writer might have used his native pronouciation. But, when a kannada speaker corrects the spelling, it should be retained. Similarly, "Baalu jenu" should read "Haalu jenu". "Baalu" is a tamil equivalent of "Haalu" (english:Milk). - btbytes
- Agree with Galatta -> Galate. However, "Baalu Jenu" is still the correct name.
- In Kannada, there are both these movies, "Baalu Jenu" (ಬಾಳು ಜೇನು) and "Haalu Jenu" (ಹಾಲು ಜೇನು). Rajnikanth has acted in "Baalu Jenu" and not "Haalu Jenu". Rajkumar had acted in Haalu Jenu. - KNM Talk 01:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
