[edit]The definition of a hard drug, is one that is hard to give up, and generally reserved for highly addictive drugs.
Since most hallucinogens are not positive reinforcers, and do not really provide escape from sorrow, they aren't considered hard drugs.
Addictive drugs would include (from order of least addictive, to most addictive): PCP, caffeine, snorted cocaine, snorted methamphetamine (crank), heroin, alcohol, barbituates, quaaludes, valium, injected methamphetamine (crystal), smoked cocaine (crack), smoked methamphetamine (ice), nicotine
PCP (a dissociative hallucinogen) is at the low end of the list, and would be the only hallucinogen that could qualify with the possible exception of DXM. --Thoric 18:05, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Although this is the most common definition, the slang term for Viagra is coming into use among certain communities of teenagers (Hunter College High School, Stuyvesant, etc).
