Ille-et-Villaine appeared as Ille-et-Unpleasant. If this is a translation error (my French appears to indicate it might be) can the correct version be 'forced'?

Jackie Speel

That's in fact quite a funny mistranslation, although vilaine and not villaine means something like ugly, or naughty. It is also an old derogative term for "female peasant". In fact, Ille-et-Vilaine is not to be translated, since the name comes from the name of 2 rivers, the Ille, and the Vilaine... maybe an ugly river, after all... olivier 14:33, Oct 29, 2004 (UTC)
