[edit]Wouldn't Leif Ericson's son's last name be "Leifson"? Or was the rule only followed sometimes? Nohat 04:42, 2004 Apr 25 (UTC)
I have serious doubts about the factual accuracy of this article, both about the existence of this character which I have been unable to confirm in the sources I've looked at and because mentioning of the "Throne of Greenland" which is something totally unknown to me. --Biekko 16:57, 30 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- It seems to jibe with what I've read, though "throne" is severly misleading since Thorkell, Leif and Erik did not hold the title of "King" but Paramount chieftain. --Iustinus 07:09, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, there was no known "kingdom" of Greenland. And this person's surname would be "Leifursson" or "Leifson".
- I don't think so. Notice that Leifur's patronymic is Eiríksson, even though his father's name was Eiríkr. Just as you don't get *Eiríkrson, you won't get *Leifurson. The -r is a nominative suffix, not an integral part of the name.
- The existence of Thorkell Leifsson is not in doubt (well, not any more than any other chracter from the sagas). He is mentioned by the same sorces that mention Leifur. The only issue really is the use of the word "throne" here. --Iustinus 23:19, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
