Improving page

[edit]

Hello, I'm a new wikipedia editor and I just noticed that the legality section on this page is a bit odd because it starts by listing places were interaical marriage was historical banned. I'm thinking about adding a first paragraph but the current legality then moving the current part of it to a subsection labeled history. Thoughts? Wik206 (talk) 05:10, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Or should legality just be renamed history seeing that's what it's more about? Wik206 (talk) 05:14, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sound more accurate. 2601:680:CE83:C580:C115:D0D6:895D:1D97 (talk) 01:23, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Too many of the examples are ridiculous

[edit]

Just saw some examples added. It drew my attention to the fact that a lot of them are appallingly US-centric in their naming conventions. Only an American would say Black British, or British Jamaican, or British Lebanese, etc. British people wouldn't. Should we rename this article to "American perspectives on interracial marriage"? Some more labels that only an American would use have been added. This article is becoming a disaster area. Is anyone ever seriously described as European-Armenian American? HiLo48 (talk) 23:52, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Black British" is a common and also an official (census, eg) term in UK: see the Wikipedia article, and its Talk page, Black British people.

Interracial children are more attractive and other funny biases in this article.

[edit]

Found this article to be biased but was laughing when it stated that interracial children are more attractive than non interracial children. Was curious if anyone else found humor in this article? They put Nazi Germany right after The United States when talking about interracial marriage being illegal. Better watch out you are a Nazi if you think that it should be. I find the use of the word "bias" as an adjective to be somewhat humorous. The idea of race having any definite meaning is also humorous. HiLo48 (talk) 07:34, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article only cited that subjects in a survey found biracial people more attractive. The article never said that they actually are. This way, the article is not really biased, it just shows that some people are biased. Markita2023 (talk) 22:41, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Race

[edit]

Any discussion of interracial marriage needs to begin with the fact that race is a construct only and has no scientific validity whatsoever.

Modern science regards race as a social construct, an identity which is assigned based on rules made by society. While partly based on physical similarities within groups, race does not have an inherent physical or biological meaning. The concept of race is foundational to racism, the belief that humans can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another.

Additionally, the term miscegenation is pejorative and so should not be used. Kanchan M Mahon (talk) 15:12, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
