Question

The concusser move, or whatever it is called mentions that it would kill someone. Has Sanji ever really killed anyone?

I'm not sure anyone has died in One Piece, other than in flashbacks and such. - STAREYe 17:21, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

People have died, but the theme that Oda uses in one piece is not the persue to kill people, but the persue to destroy other people's dreams. There are many, unimportant people that die. Only a few, influencial people die, like: Higuma de bear, and Bellemany. --Guille2015 20:22, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Very strange coincidence

Has anyone noticed that the two women who played the younger Sanji in the anime also played Pikachu and Ash Ketchum (in the Pokémon anime) respectively. Should it be noted in the Trivia section? Hogtree 10:48, 6 June 2006 (UTC) PS. I know it's not that strange.

Sanji's Left Eye

You said you can see Sanji's left eye in episode 21, 27 and 82? Is that the dub version, cause I scanned through the Japanese one loads of times and I couldn't find it, even going through the frames, and chapter 319, which you said he holds a spyglass up to his left eye, but he dosen't? --88.109.213.10 15:41, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Shanks the Red

Did you try chapter 419? It may have been a typo. Why do we even have that section anyway? A simple mention that "Sanji's left eye is rarely, if ever, seen in the manga, and is occasionally the butt of jokes among fans." would be more than sufficient for such a minor character point. --tjstrf 15:45, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Trivia removal

I've been attempting to work the trivia section into the main section of the article. Someone obviously disagrees with this.

My trivia removal is motivated by 3 major facts. 1st, trivia sections are totally unprofessional looking, a series of bullet points is hardly the brilliant prose we should be authoring here. 2nd, they grow. A small trivia section of 2-3 points of actually interesting info is fine, but they are constantly being added to, usually by IP editors, until they've grown to ridiculous size. 3rd, and in my opinion most importantly, if information is trivia, as in random factoids, then it is not significant enough for inclusion in the article. It's sections like this that get our anime and manga articles labeled as "fancruft" by some of the other editors.

There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to bring any or all of the One Piece biography articles up to the good article standard, so why not aim for it? --tjstrf 09:34, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I see your point. Recently, we've had a series of silly things happening here in the One Piece pages, people adding speculations and what not that I've had to remove/correct. I apologise for that, I mistook it for one of those things that has been happening lately. I'll try to avoid a repeat of that in future.

The trouble with trivia in most cases is its hard to work into the main article, even I've had goes at it myself (hence why a lot of pages have had new layouts and stuff). There is some infomation worth noting that just doesn't fit in. If you know how to do so without loosing them, then go ahead I won't stop that. It may be hard to work in, but the end result is a much cleaner article. My personal opinion is that character data should never be in the trivia section, period.

You're right though, the One Piece articles are a gigantic mess. I can hardly even read Zoro's article half the time. That's why I stay over at the Bleach section mostly. --tjstrf 10:20, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Agreed! I'm spending half my time sitting here watching the orginal anime verision, reading the manga and all the translation just to confirm whats fact and fiction. I don't want to be doing this but how else do you edit people's mistakes without doing so? I'm currently wishing people just double check information before they post it up. Not sure. But in the Bleach articles, we have a few things going for us that seem to help a lot. The series is less mainstream, the character articles were mostly written by the same editor, we revert the hell out of IP editors, and finally, we've been implementing the reference system. Less mainstream means we get less idiots, rarely argue over how to spell things, and can all agree on what's canon. The single original author means that they were all written in the same basic style, and also makes the spelling even less of a problem. The systematic reverting of questionable IP contributions stops junk like having the same info 6 times in the article. And the reference system means that you can determine what's verifiable and what's not, because we have all the manga chapters and pages listed in the footnotes. (We haven't finished this step yet, and won't for a while, but it's still a great help) For an example of what I'm talking about with the references, check the bottom of Shinigami (Bleach), which actually made it to Good Article status recently.

Also, sorry if I seem like I'm butting in or bragging, I can't claim credit for how the Bleach articles look any more than I can blame you for how these look, but I thought this might be a bit helpful. --tjstrf 10:51, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Ah! I see what you mean with the refs thing. I was wondering how the hell to get refs into the One Piece pages until now. Thanks for showing me that page. Sanji's Epithet

Sanji's epithet of Mr. Prince is given to him by himself during the Baroque Work Saga so as to hide his identity? Why does it say (Navy) behind Mr. Prince in Sanji's article?

Martial arts style, french Savate not included?

While I see the clear simularity to Capoeira, and apparent simularity to pretty much any martial arts system that includes kicking as a main form of attack, I have placed savate in purely because it represents Sanji's cultural background in every way. Savate is a french kicking style that was developed by street fighters and sailors which even lacked hand attacks in some of the early styles, though savate had developed the use of the hand attacks later on. Sailors and dock workers would use their hands as support for slippery ground. Savate does not include use of knees either which fits with Sanji using only the feet. Sanji is french by appearance, attack names and cooking style, not to mention has spent a lifetime at sea and has only worked with European cooks in a european restaurant. While I can see your idea, and it's not a bad one, I have to disagree with the fact that Sanji not using his knees, I'm fairly sure at more than one point he has, however I do not have any references to prove that. Even ignoring that, Sanji does fight barefooted and at equal strength as shown in the Arlong arc. While the old forms of Savate may be similar, is that important enough to mention in the article as the most common forms of it seem to have incorporated hand attacks? Well, my main concern was if they were possibly influences at a character design level. Old forms of 'savate' relate to the Age of Sail of our own world, which in addition to the cooking and language used relate in turn to the French. Just as Zoro uses a katana and went to a japanese style dojo. While I am not sure if this particular section of the article has been changed much since that edit, it seems to flow better as I am reading it now, so I do not intend to make further additions relating to his potential character design influences, it might bog down that section of the article with too much non-sanji information. 58.162.28.239 07:31, 4 April 2007 (UTC) Grandor

Sanji's strength.

I think under abilities it should also state that Sanji is the 2nd or 3rd strongest fighter of the crew. He also seems to be Luffy's Left hand man since he always fights the one who is a little weaker than the One Zoro beats. I put 2nd or 3rd because while he may only fight the third strongest, the third strongest is always only a tiny bit stronger than him. And Sanji seems to beat that person with much more ease than Zoro does. But if anything Zoro and Sanji are always fighting with no winner in sight. I think his place should be added in. In the early arcs Sanji was weaker than the two strongest Luffy and Zoro (that were equal)... It's unknown what is the level of Sanji's strenght now... We don't know if he is still weaker than Luffy and Zoro and by how much... I think we can write that he is one of the 3 strongest and that he is probably second to Luffy and Zoro... Red Leg VS Red Shoe

Now, thought it was Red Leg Zeff. That is why Sanji's is so similar being Black Leg. I see it's changed to Red Shoe but I could have sworn it was Red Leg. Desert Spada 02:01, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Japanese version = Red Leg, 4Kids version = Red shoe. We're going by the Japanese version inncidently... For universal beause there is actually more then one English now (Odex, 4Kids, FUNimation). So it SHOULD be Red Leg, also because thats the name of the fighting style both Zeff and Sanji use (Zeff invented it). Angel Emfrbl 07:26, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Trivia

Following facts have been removed from the article by more than one editor. And have repeatedly been put back by another:

• According to Eiichiro Oda, Sanji most resembles a duck. He is identified by the color blue, and smells of seafood and cigarettes.

• In the Anime, Zeff did not eat his leg, but he cut it off in an attempt to save Sanji from drowning.

• Eiichiro Oda has said that the spiral end of Sanji's eyebrow channels the 'circular energy' of the universe.

• In the Funimation television broadcast of the anime, Sanji's cigarettes are removed. A Funimation spokesman has stated this is due to Cartoon Network's broadcast standards, and the cigarettes will be retained in the uncut DVD releases.

I say it's fancruft and should be removed. Other oppinions?

Sorry for the delay on reply, but that last statement i'd say isn't fancruft, although it might be more relevant in an article about overall one piece censorship.Jinnai (talk) 20:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
