Book banning
[edit]This really merits its own article. --Caponer 20:39, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- I guess there is precedent for that, because it seems all semi-notable events get their own articles. If you like you can move it, the only source is the one I cited. Ashibaka tock 03:39, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- This really needs moving. There are many hundreds of significant events & contributions by/of the population of this county. As both my parents worked for the Kanwaha Country School Board at the time (Principal/Executive Secretary to The Superintendent of Schools respectively) I am both fully aware of its importance & implications. This incident is not part of a movement nor is it discussed editorially. Please move or delete this section & let's leave the Wiki page to its more informational representation of the county. --Brittus —Preceding undated comment added 17:34, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- It sounds more than minor, seeKanawha County textbook controversy. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 22:03, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- Someone needs to expand the history section! • Sbmeirow • Talk • 22:08, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Etymology
[edit]Which Native American language does this name come from? Badagnani (talk) 22:12, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- If I'm not mistaken, it's from an Iroquois tribe. - JWhitt (talk) 02:55, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Kanawha was the name of the tribe which resided thereCoal town guy (talk) 14:39, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Pronunciation of Kanawha
[edit]I am a native of the area and I'd like to note that we pronounce it /kəˈnɑ/, as in we don't add in a third syllable. - JWhitt (talk) 02:55, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Encyclopedia vs travel brochure
[edit]Can we all please in some way at least attempt to monitor the page content here and agree that family fun, swell places and the new Walmart might not be what you want in an encyclopedic article......Thats why we have touring agenciesCoal town guy (talk) 14:15, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, that's what Wikivoyage is for (within reason). Acroterion (talk) 15:18, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- I agree 100% BUT, I have to say that the edits look EXACTLY like a brochure...one that is found at the WV Visitor center.........which has working restrooms and a great friendly staff(ha ha ha)Coal town guy (talk) 15:48, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
History section
[edit]Kanawha was part of WV PRIOR to the conclusion of the Civil War. Post Civil War Counties formed in WV are as follows: Grant, Mineral, Lincoln, Summers and Mingo..Coal town guy (talk) 18:14, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]I've changed the pronunciation to match the pronunciation listed in Kanawha River. The old pronunciation of /ɑː/ rather than /ɔː/ also is probably a reflection of the cot-caught merger. Talu42 (talk) 07:07, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
