Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Edit warring IP editing against consensus while talk page discussion is ongoing. Immediate disruption needs to be stopped. oknazevad (talk) 04:06, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IP of interest, since I can see you're watching: Please 1) stop removing your comments (or stop making them if you don't believe them yourself), and 2) just stop edit warring while discussion continues. Izno (talk) 04:37, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was removing comments here because I didn't know if it was allowed for other's to leave comments here. It's not that I don't believe in them or myself (kinda rude to say), it's just I don't wanna get into any more trouble then the warning.
I just said that same thing within the MLS talking topic area, so no worries 2607:FEA8:4A5C:7600:5C3B:2C24:11FC:FDFE (talk) 04:43, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – IP has seen the light. Favonian (talk) 13:00, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. FMSky (talk) 05:46, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. FMSky (talk) 05:46, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. FMSky (talk) 05:47, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – IP editor keeps making edits claiming that T.U.F.F. Puppy is "not for children" using some of the flimsiest and most laughable logic I have ever seen (because it's rated TV-Y7 FV and not TV-Y - TV-Y7 FV is still considered children's programming, and the editor is seemingly unable to get it through that thick skull of theirs). While the edits are not constant, they have been occurring long enough to the point where it's considered disruptive. Enough is enough. Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Per WP:GSCASTE. - Ratnahastin (talk) 07:08, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I'm reluctant to pull the GS card for a first protection. Favonian (talk) 13:54, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Remsense ‥  10:37, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing by IP accounts Halikandry (talk) 11:10, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Favonian (talk) 12:23, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: It seems that user User:Kriji Sehamati‬ is not new to Wikipedia and might be operating multiple accounts. It appears she has an issue with one of my contributions, as she created her account just 15 days ago, yet she already has a good understanding of tools like Twinkle and AfD procedures. This level of familiarity suggests prior experience on the platform. I am now requesting her account to be blocked as I am completely disturbed by her repeated allegations and disruptive behavior. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 11:43, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: User:Kriji Sehamati‬ is intentionally disrupting all my contributions on Wikipedia. Her repeated actions, including unnecessary AfD nominations and COI tagging, suggest a targeted effort to undermine my work.. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 11:46, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent, inadequately-explained edits by multiple IP addresses intended to editwar in the last 4 hours, contravening previously agreed photo arrangements in FA review. hundenvonPG (talk) 12:47, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – So far, pending changes protection appears sufficient. Favonian (talk) 14:01, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Frequent vandalism recently. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 12:49, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Favonian (talk) 13:47, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Reason: Persistent sockpuppetry. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TyMega. HorrorLover555 (talk) 14:02, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Reason: High Level 49.37.115.43 (talk) 14:29, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP keeps adding "1.2 million" as the size of the Afghan army without any sources. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 15:11, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Protection is too high and it was for sockpuppetry in 2018. It's nearly 2025 now so if it needs protecting just do pending changes or semi-protection but unprotection would be better I think. 147.10.234.99 (talk) 23:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging protecting admin User:Ponyo, who might or might not wish to have input. I looked at the history of disruption and it looks pretty bad. I'm inclined to give semi protection a shot (this would eliminate 95% of the disruption in page history), but I'd rather hear from the sysop who made the call first. BusterD (talk) 14:24, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Things have calmed down and some consensus between registered & unregistered editors seem to favour small tweaks that are supported by reliable sources. See here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Kay_Granger&diff=prev&oldid=1264954740

    Additionally, yesterday at

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Schwede66&diff=prev&oldid=1264772930 I asked protecting user to unprotect and/or make needed edits, but no response even as yet.

    Thank you.107.115.165.20 (talk) 09:58, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined – Protection expires in 6 hours. Favonian (talk) 12:33, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Acknowledged. Thank you for pointing out the expiry time. This should give sufficient time for reassessment by concensus. You're welcome to weigh in, as both the backlash/scrutiny / public debate is at issue as well as whether this development should be "lede" in an article about her. I am of the mind that public debate is warranted as encyclopedic historical news, but not sure if it warrants lede status. In my view, health is secondary to legislative record, tho both are important. I'll mull over it and maybe seek input from others. Thanks again, Favonian, for the prompt reply.107.115.165.20 (talk) 15:29, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Change his 2021 portrait to a newer one. Contact me further on my talk page to question this. 2601:483:400:1CD0:9C73:48C7:B39B:6E31 (talk) 18:58, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That assumes we have a newer one to use. Unless it's uploaded to Commons we can't use a newer image; if a newer one does exist on Commons you need to link it here. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 19:01, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for the reason given above. Favonian (talk) 12:35, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
