Dear Kenkam,
thank you very much for your encouraging comment. Now, as I have the proofs of Mr. Venakanathan's prediction, everything what User:Curps told me is rubbish. But to be and to stay polite should be the first priority; this is, why Mr. Venakanathan and I will disclose the prediction in another place, perhaps in the German Wikipedia (I am German) or on my private internet site, which is a pity, because the theories about gravitational influences onto the big earthquake's probability are almost proven; however, the established community of geologist are in contradication to this - for this, I have also documents. So it's very interesting.
Because I know Jimbo Wales, I am interested, what he thinks of User:Curps rigid attitude to wipe out my (small) contributions to Earthquake prediction article, which has still has some strange other unproven theories.
Why don't you have an E-mail address ?

Vote for deletion
[edit]Ken, It is against Wikipedia policy to have two separate articles on the same subject, see Wikipedia:Duplicate articles. This is why I have listed your article for deletion.
Please don't remove the "vote for deletion" notice on Asian tsunami : The earthquake.
Please try to work with others instead of trying to force things your own way. -- Curps 04:26, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- A compliant against Curps has been file because Curps is mounting vandalism attacks and forced moves on articles by other users. kenkam 06:20, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- His vote for deletion is another effort by himself to delete other user's contribution so that he can preserve his own views only ... very much similar to Hitler's WWII eliminations tendencies ... (See Compliant on Curps)kenkam 06:20, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Your complaints
[edit]Ken,
Please stop your disruptions and try to work with the rest of us. I am not the only one who opposes what you are doing. -- Curps 06:02, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I have not & do not disrupt (see my history) anyone but you Curps had disrupt some of my article, contributions & comments by blatant deletes. Please stop your personal attacks. kenkam 06:20, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- While the vote for moving 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake to 2004 Asian Tsunami was closed by me because I felt that you will never change your title, I had other users encourage me to start coverage of the Asian Tsunami event on my own in different topic title, but you have vandalised my efforts by changing & moving the article yourself without consultation (very belittle of you Curps !) kenkam 06:20, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I only ask others to look at:
- Wikipedia:Requested moves#2004 Indian Ocean earthquake .26rarr.3B 2004 Asian Tsunami
- Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Asian tsunami : The earthquake
- and for general background
- and draw their own conclusions.
- Wikipedia works by consensus, and you can't try to force things your way when many people (not just me) oppose it.
- -- Curps 06:34, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
---
- I sincerely beg your pardon. I have never 'forced things my way' (see another classic case of personal attack by Curps). All my Wiki posting shows clearly I posted to seek consensus without initiating any moves or deletes unlike the deliberate attacks, accusation, moves & deletes done by Curps to me as well as other users who may have added to his articles. kenkam 06:43, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- But when the consensus is unanimously against you, you simply ignore it and try to force things your way. On Wikipedia this doesn't succeed. -- Curps 06:50, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- On the contrary Curps, base on consensus, I have decided to drop the pursued to rename your article because I see your insecurities with the proposed change. What I have done is to start a proposed Asian Tsunami series on my own, have I forced anything on anybody ?? In Wiki, there is freedom to contribute and to hold each other's differing opinions, is there not ?? kenkam 07:02, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- As I've already mentioned, it is against Wikipedia policy to have duplicated articles covering the same topic (see Wikipedia:Duplicate articles). So you can't do this. Please try to follow Wikipedia policies and work with the rest of us. -- Curps 07:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- You should also not spam identical messages to the Talk pages of the people who have voted in Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Asian tsunami : The earthquake. -- Curps 07:15, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
With respect: You are entirely right that "In Wiki, there is freedom to contribute and to hold each other's differing opinions." However, we have to respect consensus (and consensus-based policy) of the community about where we should contribute. We are not just a free wiki host, nor are we just a free wiki host that holds encyclopedic information - we're a free wiki host that holds encyclopedic information and organizes it in an encyclopedic way, with single articles for distinct topics. If I had contributions to make about Ronald Reagan, R. Reagan or Reagan Ronald or even Ronald Reagan : The President would be entirely silly places to make those: there is already a Ronald Reagan. This is why I voted to delete (and I'm a noted inclusionist). Samaritan 07:29, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Clarification
[edit]Copied from Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Asian_tsunami_:_The_earthquake: "I have decided not to pursue the re-naming of Curps's article 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and through consultation with other helpful Wikis, I have decided to start a series of Asian Tsunami articles on my own ... there is freedom to initiate such a move right ?" Kenkam, I'm afraid not. You appear to have made a good faith decision to create a separate series of articles after your proposed move failed, but this is contrary to Wikipedia policy.
The most important point relevant to the current dispute is that there can be only one article on any subject. If this basic rule wasn't in place, every disagreement (of which there are many) would result in a new article. This would be horribly confusing for readers, who would not know which article to read, and would mean that all the friendly editors who update content and correct spelling and grammar would have twice the work to do. If you wish to add content, you must do so within the status quo context of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake article. If you wish to do something major to the article, you must achieve consensus. Anyone who cannot get majority support for their proposal is expected to acquiesce to the consensus until he or she garners more support. This is the reason why Wikinaut's contributions have been repeatedly removed. This process is sometimes very frustrating and slow, but it encourages discussion and contributions from different points of view as a single article is created. Any attempt to circumvent the requirement for consensus and create a parallel article structure is considered to be extremely impolite and disruptive.
Before attempting major changes like name changes or 'forking' existing articles, please see pages such as Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and other pages listed in the welcome message at the top of this page. If you have any questions after reading this background, feel free to ask them on my talk page. Cheers, BanyanTree 07:36, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hi BanyanTree, I have visited Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines and found out some interesting pointers to share with you.
Key policies
[edit]1) Avoid bias. Articles should be written from a neutral point of view, representing differing views on a subject fairly and sympathetically.
- Was Curps Neutral when he deleted other points of view, even if they were differing. The term "Asian Tsunami" is an accept term or name for the event that happened on the 26th Dec 2004, covered by news media and the net. Blatantly calling 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake is silly because there have been hundreds of earthquakes very week since 26th Dec 2004 but there is only one deadly tsunami that has been named by the media as the "Asian Tsunami".kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
2) Don't infringe copyrights. Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia licensed under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. Submitting work which infringes copyrights threatens our objective to build a truly free encyclopedia that anyone can redistribute, and could lead to legal problems. See Wikipedia copyrights for more information.
- No problems here. kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
3) Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Its goals go no further. See What Wikipedia is not for more info.
- An 'encyclopedia' by Wiki definition is "containing articles on topics in many different fields ... specialise in a particular field", by branching Asian Tsunami to its categories covering specialised field & topics is my purpose & goal. In fact, I have come to a point to consider creating a "Asian Tsunami" Wiki project on my own ... care to contribute here ;-) kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
4) Respect other contributors. Wikipedia contributors come from many different countries and cultures, and have widely different views. Treating others with respect is key to collaborating effectively in building an encyclopedia. For some guidelines, see Wikipedia etiquette, Wikipedia:Writers rules of engagement, Wikipedia:Civility, Dispute resolution.
- I admit I see thing differently, maybe because I am orient-asian, from a land far away ... in this case at the epicentre of the disaster ... I need some respect & space which Curps has failed big time in rendering to me / others. kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Behaviour guidelines
[edit]5) No personal attacks (and move personal debates to email)
- I am attacked by Curps ... if this was real-life I would have been murdered by him already !! ... ;-) kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
6) Please do not bite the newcomers
- Not only did Curps bite me, he chew the bits he bit-off from me !! He bit me when I was new, before I had an account, and he is bitting me now too !! kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Three revert rule (Revert wars considered harmful)
- While I had the courtesy to announce my idea to propose a change of name of 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, he just went ahead & moved my articles without consultation & consensus ... poor me. kenkam 08:13, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Re: your complaint
[edit]Kenkam, I know you are new here, but you have been making some unfounded accusations against Curps. Please read Wikipedia:No personal attacks and Wikipedia:Vandalism for explanation of the terms. He has not performed any vandalism, nor made any personal attack of which I am aware.
- (reply) Hi Knowledge Seeker, thank you for your kind comment. My compliant against Curps is not unfounded but well documented with every point fully explained. Curps was the one the launched unwarranted attacks against me, I do not have any ill intent with Curps though. kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Your comments, however, about his being on a vendetta and his insecurities over his article are bordering on an attack. You seem overly attached to the idea of ownership of articles: none of the articles are yours or his. Furthermore, you may perceive it as a vendetta since you are the only one in favor of these changes. You may feel you have been singled out, but it is because you continue to make these changes without a single user to support you; on the other hand, there are a large number who are in favor of the current system.
- Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia and anyone can edit it .. that is what it says so with its original intent. While I never claimed ownership or rights over any of my contributions, I have been side-lined by Curps through his deletes, moves and hurtful comments about me and so I can only defend gracefully as decently as I can ... Curps, "if you can stop pinching me, I'll stop crying in pain" ... kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Also realize that other contributors, including me, won't be impressed with your continual vague claims of all the other Wikipedians who support your claim if none of them actually step up and back you up.
- I have never said other Wikis were in support of me but I pointed to the massive net communities that is calling the event "Asian Tsunami" not only me (3.5 millions sites out there). The Wikis I may have mentioned were friendlies that suggested that I start a series on my own without the struggle of change by the initiator of the original article. Anyway, my purpose is to state the facts and they will convince themselves. I do not seek other's impressions or support, because the truth will permeate itself ... always. kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
What I'd recommend you do at this point is back off gracefully.
- Suggestion or threat ?? kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
And apologizing to Curps wouldn't be a bad idea either.
- My apologies but Curps is the perpetrator ... ;-)kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
If you have material you would like to add about the earthquake, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake#Quake characteristics would be a great place.
- If my contributions were accepted in the first place, would we be have this discussions ?!kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
If that section gets too large, then you or someone else may suggest spinning the tsunamis off into 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami or something like that.
- Some categories of the topic don't fit (Wiki sense) into the original article. The original article talks about the indian ocean earthquake in 2004 where events has massive occurred even currently and has evolved to other dimensions that need Wiki attention.kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
However, remember to respect the consensus of all editors. Wikipedia is a community, which means that we must all work together. Sometimes we may not all agree but we should follow policy and consensus.
- How I wished kindness was first showered upon me before I could beautifully reflect it back ... alas !kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
If you can't bear to follow these rules, you are free to write whatever you like on your own web site,
- I have ... Curps either deleted it or moved it (all documented)!! kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
but I hope you will stay here and devote your time and energy to improving these articles, rather than trying to write your own versions of them.
- OK ... but I think someone needs to talk to Curps.!kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
As you said during the proposed name change, "'it is harder the change something you are used to than to scrub stubborn stains off your socks.'"
- I said it ... I think it would be wise to let things as they are, that is why my "Asian Tsunami" series ... which has little to do with the 2004 earthquakes in the indian ocean. !kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I know it is hard to change what you are used to or what you would like, but just as you conceded that name change to consensus, try to respect it in other areas and don't try to circumvent it. — Knowledge Seeker দ (talk) 08:23, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Have I not already closed the voting to move the original article ? I value consensus. Starting a different string of Asian Tsunami articles has little to do with last year's earthquakes in the indian ocean.kenkam 09:07, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Do not modify others' comments
[edit]Kenkam, it is considered inappropriate to modify another user's signed comments, even if you feel their spelling, punctuation, or grammar is incorrect. — Knowledge Seeker দ (talk) 09:16, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Knowledge Seeker, if you carefully read through each reply, you will see that none of your remarks were deleted, modified or manipulated but just a reply pointer after each question. Thanks. kenkam 09:44, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- You changed "realize" to "realise" and "apologizing" to "apologising." — Knowledge Seeker দ (talk) 09:49, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Opps ... my UK spelling bots ... my sincere apologies ! kenkam 10:19, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it—I hadn't seen you do anything like this in the past. I just wanted to point it out, since we want people to edit and correct articles, not talk pages, and sometimes people can get confused. Just something to watch out for in the future. — Knowledge Seeker দ (talk) 10:37, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Do not crosspost
[edit]Please don't excessively cross-post messages among various Talk pages, just to make your point or to "call people to action". It is disruptive, and unwelcome. -- Netoholic @ 06:13, 2005 Jan 12 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Kenkam, i've noticed that you use the external link syntax for all your links. This is why your links show up light blue with a small graphic on their right, instead of dark blue like everyone else's. You may enjoy reading some of the following articles to learn to make proper links:

Better source request for File:Indo plates.png
[edit]Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
