Talk:Top grossing movie
'Do we have permission to reproduce this? It is copyright by IMDB.'
We certainly have the same right as the IMDB to reproduce the raw info, the question is whether the layout/presentation is too derivative. I would say that a league table like this is the obvious, natural one, and we're ok. (NB: IANAL, nor do I play one on TV)
Query - shouldn't this be listed under the original entry of movieS... it's not talking about just one - it's talking about movies collectively and it sounds like bad English to me. I know Wikipedia policy is to avoid plurals but sometimes I think they're necessary. If it was just about ONE movie then it would be different. Also, top grossing movies of how long? Maybe the title should be more specific? ~ KJ
- Good question. The reason why this page was moved from the plural title was to allow easy and direct linking within the edit windows of other articles. For example, one could say that movie X was the [[top grossing movie]] in the year 2000. With the plural title one would have to type [[top grossing movies|top grossing movie]] in order to have a direct link. Redirects could do the job, but one of the main reasons we have naming conventions is the limit the need for them in the first place. I agree that the current article is just a list and the above title seems a bit odd in this light -- but one could write an article about top grossing movies and place this before the list. --maveric149
- hmm... well, I still think it ought to be the other way round because top grossing movie could just as easily be the redirect and it's still better english. But I don't care enough to go to the bother of doing the moving!~KJ
- However the original creator of this article never made a redirect from the singular to the plural title. Instead of keeping the current setup (thus encouraging others to create similarly pluralized titles) I moved the content and left the plural title as a redirect. In a wiki direct linking is always superior to the use of redirects. Cheers! --maveric149

Looking at this page and then at the list of highest grossing films makes me slightly confused. Could anyone tell me the exact difference please? KF 20:54 Jan 13, 2003 (UTC)
