He inserts interwiki links? If that's vandalism, then I'm really in trouble. Guanaco 00:35, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Was he maybe inserting them to the wrong articles? That would be Michaely... Snowspinner 02:19, Jul 1, 2004 (UTC)

persistent vandalism to Internet democracy. Anonymous user (also using IP's 193.198.140.68, 193.198.128.197, 193.198.144.102, 193.198.144.79, 193.198.145.40, 193.198.129.170 and 193.198.138.46) failed to win over anybody else in a large amount of discussion (now archived) on whether to include his content. He keeps coming back, removing the existing content, and replacing it with his own dubious version. Further, he is using abusive language toward anyone who restores the proper article text. I believe it would be prudent to place longer-term bans on his IP's. -- Stevietheman 16:31, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)

He's spread over a good proportion of a class B, I'd have to block a /18 or so. Does anyone think that's justified? Pakaran. 00:02, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)
No it's only the one article. I've protected intenet democracy which should deter him. theresa knott 13:35, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Vandalism and copyvios from suite of Sydney? proxies. Listing here to group them. Expecting 203.166.96.240 to be next. --Zigger 15:11, 2004 Jun 29 (UTC)

  • This user is a serial vandal, having done the same thing before and is reverting my undoing of his edits, using the following modus operandi: E will vandalise minor pages (example:anna) which are less likely to be spotted quickly, and then make minor changes to busy pages to include links to the previously defaced page. Insidious little bugger, trying to avoid version reverts to his vandalism. See List of programming languages for evidence of ongoing nature of vandalism over a couple of days. • I believe he is also 24.19.14.88, whose only contributions have been vandalism of Darth Vader and a flame war in defense of Jeffrey T. Nomura on the VfD page. RickK's comments on CML's talk page imply this as well. Chris N. 10:33, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Not-so-subtle vandalism. Puts blatant garbage on pages (like "blah blah blah" for quotes, and "Nikolic is a robot" for an article on Tomislav Nikolic. Seems to have something against Serbia, and its people. It looks like they stopped after I left a note on their talk page, but I'm adding them here just in case they strike again (with 'minor edit' checked). -Frazzydee 20:48, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Not vandalism, so doesn't belong here. Definitely was some sort of bug, the page got REDIRECTed to itself. When I reverted to the 10 Jun version, the 11 May version in the history went away. RickK 22:29, Jun 26, 2004 (UTC)

More East/West Germany nonsense. Was already speedy deleted, now it's back as Westgermans in East germany. - Lucky 6.9 00:58, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)

This user vandalized the talk page of West Germany, this has occurred not long after User:195.166.69.189 vandalized the same page.

These entries are all likely the banned user:Michael. He edits from AOL, so blocking will not do any good. Deal with these by watching and reverting until he gives up.

Michael is creating user accounts like User:Hephaestos' father to harass User:Hephaestos and is making suspicious edits to music-related articles. Guanaco 21:05, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

You don't understand. Micheal DOESN'T GIVE UP until he is banned. RickK 05:51, Jun 26, 2004 (UTC)

Just out of curiousity, why doesn't AOL work for blocking? Forgive me for not knowing already. blankfaze | ?? | ?? 05:55, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)

It doesn't not work, it's just if you block an AOL proxy, you disconvenience a lot of other AOL users as well. Dysprosia 05:58, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Ah. AOL users surf through proxies? I wasn't aware of this. blankfaze | ?? | ?? 06:21, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Yep. It's a rather stupid strategy to conserve external bandwidth. They have a 6 digit number of users per proxy, IIRC. Pakaran. 15:45, 29 Jun 2004 (UTC)

This, admittedly, is a strange entry. User has a long history of excellent contributions. Also wrote on my talk page twice, first making vague threats, then trying to insult me, more or less.

I have protected International Star Registry for now, but of course, that can only be a temporary solution; I'd advocate blocking this user (especially since they never contributed anything useful), but I'd like to hear other's opinion on this first. A 24-hour block is unlikely to be effective since the user only seems to edit every couple of days at most. -- Schnee 20:05, 17 Jun 2004 (UTC)

This is the latest proxy from the person who continually posts the useless entertainment-related substubs discussed further down the page. The modus operandi is the same each time, but they come in too slowly to be a bot. Once posted, the party never returns to flesh the stubs out, leaving a mess for others to clean up. Nor does he/she respond to any attempts at contact. I'm proposing an exception to the rules that any and all of these substubs be deleted on sight without delay. - Lucky 6.9 02:06, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I don't really see a problem here. Yes they're stubs (of the pathetic kind even) but it's valid information. The stubs will get fixed eventually. - Hephaestos|§ 02:09, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)
With all due respect, I am convinced that this is more than a problem and is on its way to becoming an epidemic. The stubs are almost totally without content, virtually useless and other users are starting to become irritated by the whole affair as well. I can't see the logic in keeping these for the sake of simply having an entry...and not all of these get fixed. Several are still languishing and others aren't much more than wikified. The dinglefritz just drops these things and runs. It's like dealing with an idiot savant. - Lucky 6.9 07:19, 16 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I should, perhaps, make it clear I do not have the intention of looking at the 2 IP addresses I haven't annotated - I probably gave the impression I was going through them systematically. Erm. I'm not. It's annoying. I mean, I noticed that other people had been reverting those I did look at, so I'm sure I'm being overly anxious. Which reminds me, I haven't had my tablets. --bodnotbod 00:48, Jun 11, 2004 (UTC)
(There seems little doubt these IPs are all one and the same person: see Michelle Branch: history for instance).
I'm not knowledgeable about these things - but having looked extensively at the edits made by the two IPs I've annotated I wondered if it was two students sitting next to each other in the same library: one of them a fairly nice chap and the other intent on being mischievous. Cos there's a definite difference in behaviour depending on the Ip you look at. --bodnotbod 17:20, Jun 10, 2004 (UTC)

Making extensive changes to YYYY in music, YYYY in sports, YYYY in film (where YYYY is a year). Changing lots of dates, for instance in 1984 in music and Michelle Branch, he insists on repeatedly changing her birth year from 1983 to 1984, although, for instance her official autobiography and many other sources say 1983.

Also insists on creating pages with lowercase last names, like Summer altice, which others then have to move to the uppercase version.

There are far too many changes for me to research, and this is not my area of interest anyway. I don't know if he is mixing legitimate changes with vandalism, or is just seriously misguided, or what.

I keep trying to revert to a good copy of the article but keep getting edit conflicts. They are reposting over each other so fast I can't even revert. This user has been repeatedly adding an off-topic paragraph to Anti-American sentiment, and before that was making other contested edits as well. I would ordinarily consider this to be a dispute over content, but he's taken to "disguising" his edits with misleading edit summaries or by immediately making "legitimate" edits afterward to make reversion more difficult. Also changes IPs after every edit and won't respond on the article's talk page. Seems to have an anti-Canadian and anti-immigration agenda. Bryan 01:13, 6 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I am fairly sure the only IP User:TheCustomOfLife editted from is 65.0.129.226. I have found him very responsive, and he picked up on wiki markup fairly quickly, then Wikipedia intro style, and even took the responsibility to circle back around and clean up his early entries. He has greatly expanded/improved Wikipedia coverage of US soap operas, and has turned Another World from a minimalist stub I made from the original contribution ("The emmy-winning NBC soap Another World air from 1964 to 1999 for 35 years.") into one of the most comprehensive TV series articles on Wikipedia. Not bad for someone who's only been here one week. Niteowlneils 00:04, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)
User:TheCustomOfLife has been incredibly helpful in cleaning up the mess left by the anon with the ever-changing proxies. He/she refuses to answer polite posts. I've even tried an insult, but no go. This IP address is always going back and changing information about Soka Gakkai International and related pages to remove references to Soka being considered controversial or a 'cult' by some. I feel like the article text does a good job of representing both sides of the argument (ie. being NPOV), but s/he seems to just be interest in whitewashing the whole situation. This has happened repeatedly over a long stretch of time, all from the same IP. Does the community agree that this is worthy of a ban by wikipedia standards? --Carl 08:55, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)

He or she did it again. The summary said, "Don't know what NPOV means. Corrected facts and removed editorializing," but in actuality, all they removed was the statement that some people believe that Soka Gakkai is a cult. Well, go to http://www.buddhajones.com/ and you'll see that it's true. Some people think it's a cult. Does everyone? No. Does wikipedia say it's a cult? No. Someone should really ban this user, since they only spout propaganda for Soka Gakkai, instead of helping with anything else.
