Climate

[edit]

There is no section regarding the climate in Lawrence County, I would assume that it is well within the northern periphery of the Humid-Subtropical climate but with the increasing elevation in eastern Ohio I'm really not sure (eg, Cincinati is just wihtin the northern periphery of the Humid-Subtropical climate even though it is further north than Lawrence county but it has a lower elevation). I am kindly requesting that someone who is familiar with the actual climate in Lawrence county please contribute climate information to the article. I would assume that the area proximal to the Ohio River would surely be Humid-Subtropical (in Cincinnati the river is a major moderating factor along with the river hills, etc). I'm thinking of moving to Lawrence county but want more info. Thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.224.3.114 (talk) 13:59, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

The "History" section is horribly POV. I'm going to edit it, but I probably won't do such a great job. It would be nice if someone could come along and clean it up.Drano 20:55, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

Official county sites

[edit]

I did not find a single official county web site, each department (Auditor, Recorder, Sheriff) each has their own separate official site.

I agree that if someone can find one main official site which links to the other official sites, then it should be the only one listed. But since each County government department has its own separate site ... the major ones should be listed.

The LawrenceCountyOhio.Org site which was there was/is a non-official (i.e. non-government) Chamber of Commerce site. LeheckaG (talk) 22:52, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are some problems with this approach. First, as it is, these are listed under references, when they should probably be listed under an "External links" section (see WP:EL). Second, it seems odd to list web sites for the sherriff, clerk of courts, recorder, and auditor when there is no (ZERO) mention of them in the article itself. I would not have a problem if the county government section mentioned them and then used these links as inline references. Finally, while I am OK with the Chamber of Commerce as an EL, I am uncertain about the Lawrence County, Ohio Genealogy and History (HTML). Lawrence Register. site - it does not seem like it would meet WP:RS and I do not think it meets the EL standards either. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:23, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see a "chicken and egg" problem. WP city's approach appears to be "dump" U.S. Census Bureau data to "stub out" articles, and then does not seem to get past that (except on major popular cities). When a county such as Lawrence does not have a "unified" official local government web site to go to, How is one supposed to find all the separate official agency/department web sites in order to populate an article with non-Census official content? I agree that a local county Genealogy and History is not authoritative, but it can be one of the only on-line leads to dig up other information, to then be corroborated with other more official sources. What I was looking for is records of what Lawrence's pre-1852 county seat (Burlington) was? A city, town, or village? and having readily-accessible links to the separate county official sites seemed appropriate. Likewise the Genealogical and History site is collecting information which is not readily available elsewhere on-line (a trip to Burlington and Ironton to go through their "paper" public records would answer some questions, but I do not intend on doing that). Just try Google, or use a reliable book, something like that: we only list external links that are important for the article. Does the article need a link to the county auditor's office? It's surely appropriate to have a reference from the county auditor's office, but simply adding these links in the ELs isn't appropriate. Nyttend (talk) 02:53, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
