[edit]This page is absurdly biased. It makes no mention of Vaudreuil's corruption, his administrative incompetance, or military meddling.

A few problems came up during merging these articles:
- Was he born in Montreal or Quebec City?
- Did he die on October 20, 1765 or August 4, 1778?
- Is his name de Cavagnal or de Rigaud or both? Rmhermen 16:11, Sep 27, 2004 (UTC)
After a quick verification
[edit]I looked up three different sources. (see below)
- The sources I looked up all indicated Quebec City. Not sure where the reference to Montreal comes from. Maybe worth looking.
- The same sources indicate August 4, 1778, in Paris.
- The same sources indicate both names.
In the Historica Canadian Encyclopedia:
"Vaudreuil, Pierre de Rigaud de Vaudreuil de Cavagnial, Marquis de (sometimes Vaudreuil-Cavagnial), officer, last governor general of New France 1755-60 (b at Québec C 22 Nov 1698; d at Paris, France 4 Aug 1778), son of Philippe de Rigaud de VAUDREUIL"
In his biography at CyberAcadie:
"RIGAUD DE VAUDREUIL DE CAVAGNIAL, PIERRE DE, marquis de Vaudreuil, officier dans les troupes de la Marine et dernier gouverneur général de la Nouvelle-France, né à Québec le 22 novembre 1698, quatrième fils de Philippe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil, marquis de Vaudreuil, et de Louise-Élisabeth de Joybert de Soulanges et de Marson, décédé à Paris le 4 août 1778."
In the Dictionnaire général du Canada of Louis Le Jeune:
"VAUDREUIL (Pierre de Cavagnal, marquis de) (1698-1778), frère du précédent [Philippe-Antoine de Rigaud], enseigne, lieutenant, capitaine, major des troupes, gouverneur des Trois-Rivières, puis de la Louisiane, gouverneur général de la Nouvelle-France et grand-croix de Saint-Louis. - Cavagnac, commune dans le Lot. [II-764]
Né à Québec le 22 novembre 1698, il était le quatrième des fils de Philippe de Rigaud. "
