Welcome! At any rate, you are right, vita is a much better example than arma for La Spezia-Rimini Line; my French is much better than my Spanish, and my Italian comes from a book; I just found the first obvious first declension cognate I found in the dictionary without recognizing that arma was irregular in Italian. Thank you!
[edit]Thanks! Actually, the problem was that "arma" is a Latin neuter plural, not a feminine -- that's why it's irregular in Italian. I think that, since "arma, armorum" never appears in the singular in Classical Latin, the Romance languages must have had an easier time reinterpreting "arma" as a feminine. Yours, Alexander Kozák
- That is, in fact, a fairly common fate of neuter abstract nouns --- gaudium > gaudia (pl.) > la joie (fem. sing.), and I wrote about it in Vulgar Latin. Should have caught it here though. Smerdis of Tlön 16:06, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)
