I have a question--shouldn't the bulk of this article be on another page like Knock (Apparition)? --ℬastique▼talk 04:17, 13 May 2005 (UTC) No - Knock is a noteworthy subject only due to the apparition and it is reasonable to consider both on the same page--File Éireann 21:44, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
- With a population of nearly 2,000 people in and around the city, as well as a regional airport to call its own, it must be of note. Admittedly, it is the site of a major pilgrimage shrine, and likely would not exist in its form today, but the town of Knock has other resources, and as this is an article about a town, not an event, splitting off the event and referencing it from another article seems more reasonable than conglomerating the two. Have you ever been to Knock? It does not have city status. It is a very small town with only one street, and most of the shops are relgious goods shops. The main businesses in the town are pilgrimage hotels and guest accomodation, there are several religious orders in residence, and the population of the town is 595. The inhabitants of the rural area surrounding do not count as part of the town - they live in various small villages and farms. The airport is actually the regional airport for County Mayo. It is called Knock airport because Monsignor James Horan, who originally built the airport, was the parish priest in Knock and hoped to increase pilgrims travelling to the shrine. My first hand experience as a frequent visitor to Knock leads me to conclude that it is better to have just one article. The two are inseparable, rather like Mecca--

I'm starting to change my mind. I guess a town and a shrine should each have an article, even if the shrine dominates the town. I don't think there should be a disambiguation page - the town will be Knock and the shrine will be Knock Shrine. Each article will be signposted from the other. I'll prepare the two articles if you give me some time. I'm removing the disambiguation header.--File Éireann 09:31, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
