Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators. Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared. |
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing from unregistered user, unreliable sources (incl. AI and google search result pages) and failed verification Hi! (talk) 22:28, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Oort1: unreliable sources??? You should read this, for example:
- Speech at the University of Notre Dame
- Indiana, Notre Dame, 6 September 2017
- Former President of Germany Horst Köhler
- keywords: "global social question" + inequality + globalization + climate (change)
- and https://www.google.com/search?q=%22global+social+question%22

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – ongoing vandalism by (same?) IP editor(s) for a few weeks. 10mmsocket (talk) 22:33, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Persistent disruptive editing by IPs and new users. Johnj1995 (talk) 00:24, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Good day! I am writing to request protection or semi-protection of the Rice and peas page. I am not the creator of the page, but I am a contributor who has invested a lot of time and effort to improve the page. Almost all of the page was written by me, and almost all of the images were added by me, most of which are my personal photos. However, the following users: 2601:147:4700:2000:418A:557A:92B3:8437 and 68.33.255.195, who I believe to be the same user, affiliated with the Rice and beans page has been deliberately removing info. I have a background in Caribbean Studies, History and Food & Nutrition, and the dish concerns my country/region, and history. I have researched the subject thoroughly, and have contributed personal pics for illustrations and clarity, and I have made sure to be inclusive of all variations I have direct knowledge about. There are differences between "rice and beans" and " rice and peas" dishes, but the aforementioned user seems to be unaware of this, and for unknown reasons have been constantly removing a section of the "rice and peas" page which details the history of variations in Central America. I would like to complete editing the page, but I am discouraged by the constant attack from the said user(s). On this premise, I am asking for assistance. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP that previously edit-warred on the page has returned to restore the same disruptive edits. Armegon (talk) 02:20, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Persistent vandalism. Hotwiki (talk) 02:38, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Persistent vandalism – A lot of recent vandalism from several new/unregistered editors. Ghent123 (talk) 02:57, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Just following up. Could we get some form of page protection soon? The only edits are either unconstructive and biased edits, or editors reverting said unconstructive edits. Ghent123 (talk) 23:53, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive IP editing removing sourced content, adding unsourced, along with formatting errors. IPs have been noticed and issues persist. IP may have a COI. ButlerBlog (talk) 03:04, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Blocked user claiming that they are notable proceeded to vandalize. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk • contribs) 05:58, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Sock repeatedly removing information over the past month. -- Fyrael (talk) 07:04, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Long-term IP block evasion, see page history. Requesting a month or two to see if this remedies the problem and the evader gets bored. mftp dan oops 15:00, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Long-term IP block evasion, see page history. Requesting a lengthier one here to see if this remedies the problem and the evader gets bored. Also see extensive protection log. mftp dan oops 15:02, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: persistet disruptive editing through sockpuppetry by cbanned user on various ip ranges Nyamo Kurosawa (talk) 16:08, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. LaffyTaffer (talk) 16:27, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Second this. Years of vandalism to subject's personal details (birthdate, birth place, height, weight, ethnicity, etc) which multiple temporary protections have not stopped. Meters (talk) 00:16, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Angolan Civil War (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Operation Restore (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Reason: Recent incidents of edit warring between users and IPs. This might be the same operator that started the first edit war. Apprently, the IP involves are proxy IPs. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 17:11, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Disruption from Ohio and Western Pennsylvania IPs. See Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Youngstown music vandal. The same protection is needed at New Edition, Template:Gang Starr and Template:N.W.A. Binksternet (talk) 18:00, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism, new accounts and ip. I'm trying to update the list with a new reference but I will wait until there is protection. Knitsey (talk) 18:07, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. TornadoLGS (talk) 18:24, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – ip vandalism. BlueboyLINY (talk) 18:33, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Skitash (talk) 19:29, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Currently under pending changes to stop IPs from erroneously adding the unsourced internet myth "full version" of the quote, but given that such an edit was just approved, semi-protection may make more sense. Belbury (talk) 19:37, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. LaffyTaffer (talk) 19:52, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – three consecutive incidents of birth name being altered against source. Heythereimaguy (talk) 20:06, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ongoing darts event subject to repetitive vandalism including many edits against consensus. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 20:28, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: editor removing content Magherbin (talk) 20:49, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Her stalker has continued to go into her page & make changes including saying they are married, adding his last name to her legal name, and adding in an AI created photo of them "together". He continues to make these changes after I have gone in & updated her personal information to be correct and after I included sources to further verify the information I am submitting is correct. OKD97 (talk) 22:58, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- FYI this person is also doing the same on other language Wikis - Danielle Bradbery . All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 23:17, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Increasingly-frequent disruption from IP socks of an LTA, User:Alex Neman. The IPs are from such disparate ranges that blocking is not possible. --Sable232 (talk) 23:54, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced content and unsourced commentary over the past week by IP editors. Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 00:54, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: Move protection was never really needed because there is no history of bad moves. Unprotection is needed because the page should be (uncontroversially) moved to match the sentence case of the other Merseyrail/Merseytravel and also to follow how Transport for London underground and overground lines are named. 10mmsocket (talk) 11:10, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

PAGE) 17:47, 16 December 2024 (UTC) - Uncontroversial page moves may be requested at WP:RM/TR. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:30, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: The page was marked as being protected due to BLP, and is still listed under that reason despite Stern dying in 2020. I am making this request per this discussion, and I am very hesitant to do so, given my concerns about the page possibly being vandalized again (hence why making the edit request was my first choice) but maybe that's just me. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 12:08, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- If you have concerns about the page possibly being vandalised, why are you requesting a reduction in protection level? — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:45, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Because Cyberdog958 recommended I do so in the linked discussion. Note also the part above where I said "maybe that's just me." 100.7.34.111 (talk) 14:04, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Reason: The page was protected due to BLP, and is still protected for that reason despite Waddell dying in 2021. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 12:13, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: The page was protected due to BLP, and is still protected for that reason despite Madoff dying in 2021. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 12:13, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Reason: The page was protected due to BLP, and is still protected for that reason despite Weatherley dying in 2021. 100.7.34.111 (talk) 12:14, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
