User talk:Karl Marx
Hi Karl, welcome to Wikipedia. A few tips for you:
- Peruse Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers and associated pages
- Sign talk page entries with ~~~~, which is automatically converted to a name and date
- Ask questions on Wikipedia:Village pump
Just a warning: some people might not like your username. If enough people are offended by it, this innocent looking talk page could suddenly turn into a circus of politics, polling and lengthy pointless discussion. Don't say you weren't warned. Read Wikipedia:Username.

Thank you. I can assure you the name is meant ironically.
Karl Marx 07:15, 27 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- I second Tim's remarks. I suggest considering a variation like Fan of Karl Marx or Rabid Marxist or something that doesn't give the impression that a major historical figure has risen from the grave to grace our pages. Note that there is no user:Saddam Hussein either. --Uncle Ed 16:01, 28 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- Or you could parody our disambiguation practices and call yourself "User:Karl Marx (ironic)". -- Cyan 00:49, 30 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- I disagree. This would not be a problem if the content of the contributions, rather than the name was paid attention to. Its sad that he/she is forced to put a disclaimer on the user page. A philospher's name, whether you agree with his ideas or not, is not offensive as the example of the mass murder given above is. --Dejitarob 20:57, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I just see you uploaded Image:Mikhail.bmp. It is good to add pictures to articles, however BMP is not a good format for pictures on the web - it is not supported by all browsers (especially when it comes to non-Windows browsers), and it does not compress well either. For photos you should use JPG instead, and for any other graphic PNG is the preferred format here. See Wikipedia:Image use policy for more details. Also note that it is a good idea to add where that images comes from, because we cannot accept copyrighted images. If that photo is from e.g. a news agency they will certainly not be amused to see it here. Well, and the finally the name of the image isn't good either, as there are probably more people called Mikhail :-) andy 09:18, 27 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Thanks for tips
[edit]Thank you, couldn't find a jpeg of Khodorkovsky. The image belongs to Yukos and is made available to the press etc.

Mikhail Khodorkovsky pic
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Orf 1.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks so much, – Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 02:20, Oct 7, 2004 (UTC)
Hello!
I see from your contributions that you are interested in Russian topics. Perhaps you would like to join the new Russian wikipedians' notice board? It is a discussion forum for wikipedians interested in all things Russian. Also, each week we pick an unfinished stub article to improve through collaboration.
Every week, a lacking Russian topic is picked to be the Russian Collaboration of the Week. |
Notice boards and Collaborations-Of-The-Week have become increasingly popular on wikipedia reciently, with Irish, British, US and many more. There is also a score board for competing collaborations! See FAC.
Isn't it about time we got articles on Russia up to standard?
Hope to see you on RWNB!

Image Tagging Image:Photo 1 1.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Photo 1 1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -SCEhardT 07:02, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Karl Marx! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Platon Lebedev - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
